A free online screener can help you organise questions about reading, writing, maths or wider learning experiences. It is a starting point for a conversation, not a diagnosis or a way to rule one out.
Which free screener should I choose?
- Free dyslexia screener: explore reading, spelling and writing concerns.
- Free maths and number sense screener: explore experiences with quantities, number order, estimation and place value.
- Free neurodiversity screener: explore overlapping learning, attention and autistic traits.
Read the age guidance and instructions before starting. If your concerns overlap, you do not need to decide on a label first. Compare all screening options or talk to the team.
Is a screener the same as an assessment?
No. A screener highlights experiences worth discussing. An assessment explores the relevant evidence and background in greater depth. The appropriate route depends on the questions you want answered: a learning assessment, cognitive profile and clinical ADHD or autism assessment serve different purposes.
DTC provides learning assessment routes and can arrange clinical ADHD, autism or combined AuDHD assessment through its private clinical partner. Explore assessment options.
What should I do with my screening summary?
Keep examples of the tasks you find difficult, the strengths you notice and support that already helps. Think about how these experiences affect home, school, study or work. Bring these questions to a suitable professional or a DTC consultation.
For a child, discuss learning concerns with their teacher or SENCO. Practical support can be explored while you consider whether assessment would be useful.
Do I need to book a paid service?
Completing a free screener does not mean you must book an assessment. You can read the guidance, discuss concerns and decide what would be useful. Paid screening with a consultation is a separate option, and it is still not a diagnostic assessment.
Where can I find answers to my questions?
Visit our questions and answers hub for questions about dyslexia, ADHD, autism, AuDHD, dyspraxia, children and workplace support. You can also book a free 15-minute consultation. DTC’s services are online, supporting people across the UK; contact us about suitability.
