Dyslexia signs, screening and assessment
Answers about dyslexia, adult learning differences, screening and specialist assessment.
Open a question to read the answer. General guidance helps you explore your options; it cannot diagnose an individual.
Am I dyslexic?
Persistent difficulty with reading, spelling or organising written work can be a reason to explore dyslexia. Some adults also find written information takes longer to process. These experiences alone do not confirm dyslexia.
Note examples from education, work and everyday life. DTC’s free dyslexia screener can help you organise your questions; a diagnostic assessment explores learning strengths and difficulties in more depth. Watch DTC’s video below and discuss suitability with an assessor.

No. Reading and spelling are central, but remembering information, planning and organisation can also be affected.
Link to this questionCan a GP diagnose dyslexia?
A GP does not diagnose dyslexia. Specialist teachers or educational psychologists usually conduct dyslexia assessments.
Link to this questionCan dyslexia be cured?
Dyslexia is not something a programme can promise to cure. Suitable learning support can help people manage difficulties and develop skills.
Link to this questionCan an online quiz diagnose dyslexia?
No. A screening quiz can indicate possible difficulties but cannot establish a diagnosis. Formal identification requires an assessment by a qualified assessor.
